No, the ML-L3 is not compatible with the D3500. The D3500 can be triggered remotely using the camera's built-in Bluetooth and a compatible Android or iOS smart device that is running Nikon's free SnapBridge app.

Snapbridge doesn't support live view or dslr control for d3500 as it doesn't have WIFI . You can shoot timelapse too with snapbridge and a workaround, from an external app. Contact me if you need help
