this remote didn't work with my D3100 without first getting a wireless receiver, so unless they fixed the lack of a wireless sensor on later models the answer is no. the only remote(s) that the Nikon websites say were conpatible without additional accessories was the wired variety (MC-DC2 is the one i saw most often recommended).
