“Can this flash be used with D3100? in the D3100 specs it says it has a commander included, so I want to know if the R1 is compatible? or I need to by the R1C1”

It is compatible with both the R1 and the R1C1 systems. IF you go to www.nikonusa.com, and go to your camera section. Under the "compatible with" tab, you'll see the accessories that can be used with your camera, or conversely, if you search for the R1 you'll see which cameras are compatible with it. In general, if your camera has the CLS system, it should be compatilble, if it doesn't you can still use using cables attached from the camera to the flashes,
