Yes - you don't want these left on, as the unit can get warm/hot. I believe the instructions also indicate that the unit should not have any stickers, etc. (it says "Remove and discard any packaging material, promotional labels, and tape from the unit."). So the labels should be removed before using. I don't know if they would cause an odor if left on, but would just strongly advise against using the unit with them still on.
