“The water reservoir gets mildew or algae or something stuck in the bottom underneath the black piece that is screwed down (instead of being able to be popped out). This is quite common. How do we clean it? Or do we trash it?”

Try a cap of bleach in the reservoir and let it soak. Do not run the bleach solution through the machine. Hint. Put the bleach in before the water to mix it all together

For stubborn buildup, use a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and water, let it sit for 30 minutes, then scrub and rinse thoroughly. Running regular cleaning cycles with a descaling solution or vinegar will also help prevent buildup and keep the machine in good condition. If the residue cannot be removed, replacing the reservoir may be necessary.
