No, I have the original without the thermometer and it’s never been a problem.

Please try again later.not if you know how to cook. and by the way....the grill works much better than the broiler for steaks and stuff. just like an outdoor grill works better than your oven. much better to sear with. besides, any steak cooked past medium rare is inedible anyway.

Not sure why people are saying you don't need it, I use it all the time. How do you make chicken or steaks without the probe, the lid is down while cooking.
