This depends on what you would like to shred, but the blender will shred/chop almost any food you put in it, even harder foods like nuts. For example, I have used this blender's chop button to shred lettuce for a salad, and I have shredded other foods with the chop button as well.

Yes, it shreds very well. Just be careful to not over do it because it will purée very quickly.
