you should see smoke. make sure you hit the smoke button for the pellets to work.

The screen will show a flame symbol indicating that the pellets are being ignited, and smoke will eventually begin appearing from the vent on the top/back side of the device. If not set to smoker the woodfire button has to be pressed for the pellets to ignite.

The first time we used it in smoking was very append. Did you hit the start button once? If you hold it down for 4 seconds, it will not go in ignite mode first.
