It depends on the games they get but yes. Many games can be played with 1 joycon per player which the system comes with. Some require 2. So depending on the game you might need to buy another set of joycons but for sure there are plenty of games out there where they can both play!

Depends entirely on the game. Nintendo systems tend to have a lot of multiplayer games you can play on the same system though, and Switch already has quite a few.

You might want to pick up a game that supports two or more players like Mario party or Mario Kart. Also, you might want to also pick up a second coltroller as well. But, in short, yes, they both can play together given the game is at least two player( and a lot of Switch games are) and two controllers.
