• Quest is a stand alone headset, a phone is not needed

• If you mean for downloading the app and setting it up, yes. Otherwise, you don't put a phone into it, it is its own computer

• no phone is needed to use. all in one headset, separate device is only needed for set up

• I am using my Note 9 with it. Haven't tried casting yet, but everything else works fine
