Dear Rod, thanks for your question about our WM 5610 Ultra-Slim TV Wall Mount. The cords are used for the integrated lock and release mechanism. Should you have to remove your TV from the wall, just pull the cords to unlock and release. Then you will able to lift the TV off the wall plate.
