• Hi Catelain, The short answer is the receiver only recieves the signal to view on your TV. The DVR not only receives the signal, but also allows you to record the signal to a hard drive {included} to time shift your viewing. The Orby system has a very good picture and is real easy to operate, plus I think it's a great value. Best regards, Walrus ...

• Dvr is a receiver and recorder. Receiver is just for channel viewing.
