I've seen this, too. It is likely the plastic deteriorating. No solution I know of except getting a new opener.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Haven't had mine as long so no issues. But the sticky feeling might be coming from a combination of hand oils and spilled wine. Try some "GOO Gone" on a paper towel GENTLY and in a small area first.
