• The commuter has a raised lip around the front to cushion drops but is open faced. The defender adds a clear plastic screen protector covering the front. Defender has a belt clip that clips over the back like a second commuter hard shell (or you can clip it to the front blocking use until you remove it but offering hardshell protection to screen for packing or hiking or other extreme use). The clip can be used as a stand to tilt the screen for watching.

• I live by both cases but the defender pro is the better out the two. The defender pro has the triple protection of the case with a hard shell 2piece, and a silicone microbateria casing on the out. I own both for my Samsung Galaxy s23.
