This particular model does not allow you to see the phone's backplate/face colour. OtterBox does make clear / opaque "candyshell" cases, but they usually are way less durable.

Yes, you are able to see the phone color through the back. It is a frosted glass type of clear. My Iphone is the Gold, and you can clearly see the color of the phone.
