Why don't you put a 2" filler board above unit . Should be able to buy from any place that sells cabinets . Take pic. to match color. I think code is 18" max. .

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I live in CA and never heard about that policy. You might take a picture and check with other microwave dealers to see if they cite the same policy. If so, it could be a policy for your city/county code. Good luck!

I am a home inspector in the state of SC and according to install requirements I found as recent as 2018 is: The National Kitchen and Bath Association recommends that the bottom of the microwave should be no higher than 54 inches above the floor, which would allow for 18 inches of clearance between the microwave and the typical cooktop height of 36 inches.May 11, 2018 Hope this helps.....
