Hi! In a microwave, the magnetron is the component that generates the energy. To power the magnetron requires 4000V. In the past, that was achieved by way of transformers, diodes & capacitors. The inverter replace all of those component and is now the power supply in our inverter models. -A

Please try again later.On a non-inverter microwave, the microwaves are either on or off at full power and if you set it to a 50 percent power level, it will turn on half the time and off half the time. You can usually hear it cycling. On an inverter microwave, the power of the waves vary with the power level setting, so at 50 percent power it is just at a lower power continually while cooking. In operation, this seems to help get rid of hot spots and cooks more evenly.
