A:AnswerIt appears to be stainless steel. If it is inside a cabinet , it needs room around to vent . I believe the instructions said four inches on each side . We have ours in a cabinet and it does get really hot . We do have venting room . Hope that helps .

A:AnswerThis is one major shortcoming for me. I would have thought at this price you could turn the sound off/on on the fly as you can with many other brands But to change it from one to the other, you have to unplug, then plug back in, then go through initial setup, including setting the clock. A real pain in the behind if you ask me. On my old Samsung, I was able to do this on the fly, which I often had to do based on needs (people sleeping, etc.). Perhaps Panasonic can take some design lessons form Samsung, lol.
