“Does the interior light come on when the microwave is cooking?”

The interior light comes on when cooking. However the interior of my oven is so dark that the illumination by the LED source is insufficient to see what is happening well.

Yes, but as others have said, the dimness of the light and the darkness of the door glass make it almost impossible to see anything inside, in daylight. At night, though, if there isn't much light in the kitchen, you can see inside to some extent. Enough to tell if water is boiling, for example.
