Hello! For proper operation, the oven must have sufficient air flow. For countertop placement, allow 6 inches (15 cm) of space on the top of the oven, 4 inches (10 cm) at back and 2 inches (5 cm) on both sides. If one side of the oven is placed flush to a wall, the other side or top must not be blocked. For cabinet placement, use the dedicated trim kit in a 23 5⁄8” x 15 9⁄16” x 21” cabinet. -M

The trim is only 23 7/16" wide, so it just lines up with the opening. I think this is on purpose for airlflow. The 6in clearance on top is inside the cabinet for airflow. If you cannot come pretty close to this figure, maybe you can vent the cabinet if the top is above eye level. The opening is wide enough to slide the micro in and the extra 2in on each side is space inside the cabinet (which must be around 27.5 in wide inside overall.
