“Maybe basic but what is meant when we say a streaming service isn't "supported" by this player? I have a Roku TV, with subscs to Netflix, Amazon, etc. Does "supported" mean I could play from those services even if I didn't have a Roku TV?”

Yes. We don't have Roku and it works fine.
