Hi cbj57, You can take advantage of the dashcam's surveillance features (Parking Guard, Motion Detection). You can achieve this by hardwiring the dashcam to your vehicle or you can also use a power bank, one you'd use to charge your mobile devices on the go. Thank you for your interest in Papago! dashcams, if you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to reach us at [email protected]. -PAPAGO! Customer Support
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The power socket in your car would have power even after the car is turned off and the keys removed. My vehicle switches off the power socket when I turn off the car. The dash cam does not have batteries and needs external power in order to function. You wold also have to go into the dash cam settings and change the record mode to motion detection. The camera would start recording when it detected motion in front of it and stop recording when no motion was detected for 60 seconds. You might be able to buy a power socket at a auto parts store and search on youtube on how to wire it up so that it bypassed your key switch. It is possible that on your vehicle the power socket has power when your key is removed.
