The watch has its companion app for both iOS and Android phones. Most apps are written for the watch and are phone independent. Other apps also require a companion app to be purchased for the phone and those may be for iOS, Android, or both.

One example is the MakeFit app, which requires a companion app on the phone to read the phone's health data (i.e. steps, heart rate, etc.) to send to the watch for display.
