This question is hard to answer without a picture as it depends on your particular type of fixture. If it is a screw on type (same thickness as a table lamp bulb) then you might have a couple of options. You could use A19s if using normal lamp bulbs currently, but BR30s will probably fill the housing a little bit better. Be aware, that although BR30s are commonly used in recessed fixtures, Philips does not guarantee them for this use. I have had a few installed exactly like that for a few years without any issues. YMMV

That said, a good way to go about it would be to measure the dimensions of your recessed lights, as well as what type of light bulb it expects (A19, etc), then use the measurements of the bulb to determine whether or not it will fit without sticking out.
