It's a simple white bulb when screwed into a socket and turned on. There are various devices that can be tapped to toggle power or dim or brighten, but even those connections needs to be initiated with an app on your phone or tablet, which you use to play with color. You can control those smartphone settings with voice command via Alexa (with the exception of first gen echo & dot). In addition to a device called a "bridge" wired to your router, which links multiple lights and your phone app, you need one more app on your pc or mac, which would be the source for your music or video and makes your lighting respond: Philips Hue Sync.
