This will depend on what your expectations and requirements are. You will need at least one piece of hardware -- the Hue hub which you can buy as part of a starter kit. Regardless, the Hub does not help with motion detection. If you want the bulb to turn on when someone enters a particular room, then yes, you'll need a motion detector and most likely an advanced home automation hub like SmartThings. This bulb does not come with any motion detecting capabilities built in. The Hub does not come with any motion detecting capabilities either as far as I'm aware. If you just want the bulb to turn on at a certain time of the day (say 6:30 AM), you can program a Routine in the Hue app to turn the bulb on without any additional hardware. If you just want to control the bulb via an app, again, you can use the Hue app to turn the bulb on without any additional hardware.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This light does not come with a motion detector, but there is another "starter kit" that contains one. You can also purchase it separately. I used this kit in my main bathroom. It will turn on the lights anytime a person enters the room and stays on for 10 minutes after the last motion is detected. It dims for about a minute before going completely off, so someone relaxing in the tub can wave a hand to restore light. It also serves as a timer for those who tend to take forever in the shower. As a bonus, the hub and app allow you to set times for what happens. For instance, I have mine set so between 11 pm and 6 am, the light only comes on in a dim setting to avoid blinding the occupant. You can also connect your Phillips hub to an app called "IFTTT" (If this, then that) and use events triggered by any device or condition that works with that application. An example would be the app on your Android or iOS phone would use its GPS functions to determine you are arriving home and tell Alexa (or other system) to turn on your lights.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Only if you want motion to activate it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No you do not. You do need the Philips Hue Bridge thigh, recommend that over the Motion detector.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You do not need a motion detector. Honestly I think that would be a waste of money since you can just tell your bulbs to turn on automatically using your phone or another digital assistant. If you want motion lights just purchased some cheap bright LED lights with a motion to tactor built in from Lowe’s
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No you do not. Only if you want it to turn on remotely when motion is detected.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No. You can turn it on with the app or but a hue dimmer switch.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Nope
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Does Not Come With a "Motion Detector"
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hue does make a motion detector. I have one in my utility room and it works great. You pair it with your hub and it will operate your hue bulbs. You can also adjust the time that the light stays on after there is no motion and control the power level. This can be set up I n the app and also be controlled.
