To this require the Phillips Hub to function? null

No you can use it without a hub but it is so nice to be able to ask Google or Alexa to change the color or turn it off and on.

You don’t need the hub for it to function. There’s a button on the back of the device which can be used to turn it on and off as well as change the color.
