Hey. They are led bulbs that fit in normal sockets and allow you to remotely control the brightness and color of the bulbs via your smartphone. I use Apple products, and when linked to home kit, Siri can control your house's lights! You can choose from any color you could think of, as well as set them to music and certain color schemes. It's purpose is to be cool!! Lol. But, it has the feature of setting your lights to come on automatically when your away from home or when you actually come on. Walking in with groceries and simply asking Siri hands free to turn on my kitchen lights....Jetsons $h!@
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No... They all sync up through a "Hub" which really only provides a function if you are looking to control your lighting while away from home. We use the Ilumi bulbs (which are bluetooth) which don't require a hub and can be controlled through a app. Really the Philips Bulbs are more advanced than most people need. Great hardware just poor execution of the Philips Hue app.

Allows you to control your light with your phone, set a timer to turn on and off. To turn on when you get home, turn off when you usually go to bed, have color themes and can all manage from you smart devices or tell Siri to turn on/ off/ or change the color.

You can use an app on your phone to turn them off and on and change their colors. You change the colors to enhance a room like you would with a new decorative rug. You can also connect them to other technology for different functions such as security lighting.

Depending if I'm watching a scary movie or playing an upbeat game I can enhance the experience with the millions of color variations these lamps offer. These lamps work off of the WiFi network not bluetooth. I even have Alexa linked to it them so if I can't reach my phone to turn off I just ask her to =). Great product if you got the cash. Lights work as standar lamps even if you don't have them linked to the Hue app.
