“I would like these to act as "spotlights", pointing them upwards to light up two columns on the front of my house from the bottom up to the 2nd story. Will these work for that purpose? Would the light's beam travel far enough for this to work?”

If your house is painted white, probably fine for white + yellow spectrums. Green + Blue will be a bit dim, so depends on your preference. Purple + Red will be likely be underpowered on the 2nd story (or very subtle).
