No. This unit provides lighting synchronization by itself to any HDMI source. You do however need to also own philips hue lights and hub in order for it to work.

Please try again later.No. On other hand, the hue sync app on PC will allow you to do the same this device does for free.. albeit you connect the hdmi cable to TV , because casting can be a pain.. someone has mentioned plex supports the hue sync I saw it on YouTube.. but I didn't get to watch full video, look that up, if he meant hue sync box or hue sync app and how to set them of you are interested. This device doesn't require a laptop to be connected.
