The answer is officially no, but seems people on reddit were able to get it to work.

Yes. Cut the wires, splice together with wire nuts, wrap with tape. No idea why people are saying no, obviously don’t know much.

 You do need 24v transformer though rather than 12v

No. Most systems are 12V. These are 24V.

No, these have proprietary cables and connectors that will only work with the transformer included in the Hue Lily/Calla starter kits.

Not really clear on what exactly the low voltage system would be.

The bulbs use less power than the standard incandescent bulb. 
If you are able to use a normal A19 light bulb you should be fine.
