“I purchased a PNY 256 GB flash drive and created my recovery disk on it. Later I tried to do my computer back up to the same flash drive, but it will not work. It just says back up failed. It also says does not recommend backing up to flash drive.”

Your Recovery drive is not supposed to be anything other that a Recovery drive. I create a Recovery drive when I buy the machine and keep it with the receipts and booklets that come with the machine in a plastic bag. This I have this flash drive for backups or file copies. Works good for me.

Please try again later.For back up you need to identify the back up location from the control panel before you You can use it for back up and or store all your existing files on it. If your computer has a back up program on it, it will save all your files (documents, photos etc) so you can access your old files. However, you will need to create a system repair disk or image file on a DVD or use system restore for system files. To save your files manually, right click on Documents and use send to command to your USB drive, do the same for pictures.
