• Both. It measures your heart rate anytime it is connected and the app is running.

• yes, if you have an iPhone SE and above. Able to get a reading through out the day if you leave it on. great product and precise as well.

• The H7 was designed to display and record your heart rate while exercising. One could wear it outside of an exercise session if the goal was to record a resting heart rate - Mike@PolarUSA
