Good question. And yes to both. I tried both options on my iPhone XR in order to answer your question. And although my iPhone is an XR. I don't see why it wouldn't work on your iPhone 7plus. Hope this helps.

Yes, it's a simple operation. Hold down the major attention key till you get a long beep and Siri is up and ready.
