no this only charge while controller at rest

No, you cannot charge the battery it comes with, with a cable. You can still use the cord to power the controller when it dies though.

I don't see an option for a cable to attach to the controller and play at the same time

No because the contacts for the battery is at the bottom using their own battery cover with a hole cut...exposing the contacts to the cradle for charging,

No. The USB cable will NOT charge the battery that comes with the stand whilst playing. At least mine won't because I tried and it didn't.
