The docking station does not have batteries it charges the batteries in the joy con remotes it can hold up to 4 of them

It doesn’t come with rechargeable batteries. The dock is powered thru USB.

Nope, it just charges the joycons themselves. The joycon controllers themselves are rechargeable. That is the purpose of this charging stand.

It is USB powered only. It's meant to be plugged into one of the USBs in the Switch dock, but I have used it successfully from the front USBs on my UPS.

No, the Joycons already have rechargeable batteries in them. The charging dock is powered by USB from the Switch and they charge the Joycons internal batteries.
