The problem with the d-pad is that, unlike the joy-cons, there is not an individual button for each direction. This means pressure on one direction of the d-pad could also accidentally push down another direction. While this is fine for casuals and hardcore gamers because the d-pad is used minimally in many games (at least in comparison to the left joy-stick), this can be incredibly annoying for games that make HEAVY usage of the left d-pad. For instance, Hatsune Miku Project DIVA: Mega Mix, a rhythm game, can become difficult to play in harder game modes without perfect precision on the d-pad. This means that I have to instead use my joy-cons for this game. Overall, I would say the Pro controller is worth it for 99% of games on the console with few exceptions and that the d-pad is only annoying in minor cases.
