“"Charger" suggests it can be portable? That's ideal for travel use, but can it just be plugged in for home use so it's never out of charge? How many bulbs are in the unit? Is there an indicator for how much charge and if/when a bulb burns out?”

It needs to be plugged in at all times to work. There are 2 UV-C Bulbs in the unit. There is an indictator light that goes off when it is time to replace your bulb and exposure kit.
