“I am using Quickbooks pro 2014. If I purchase 2020 how is the 2014 info transferred to the new program? It is saved n a seagate external hard drive. Desktop versions”

We saved our Quickbooks 2007 on a flash drive, tried to move it to the 2020 version but had questions, we just called Quickbooks and they made the transfer for us, fast and easy. You should not have problems transferring from your external hard drive. But if you do I would just call a Quickbooks rep.
