The lights are on the top of the mat with the conector and an extra USB slot built in. Smooth surface make it easy to glide .surface area should be more than enough for you not to be on the edge. If you have high sensitivity you don’t need to move much. The mat is a hard plastic glass type not soft fabric. Razer firefly v2 pro is perfect when gaming .i use mine with razer adder pro
