You can buy a replacement remote for insignias from best buy. Hit input, there will be tv, comp/av and your hmd1 or which ever hmd you use. Choose comp/av and if your tv and dvd player are connected it will let you use dvd. You don't have to turn the dvd off because when you hit input just go back to tv and the tv will come on and then when you want the dvd just hit input, choose comp/av, the dvd will automatically come back on.
