Well, since this came up when I searched I will say that you can use a pair of splitters to inject and pick off the DC voltage from an ethernet cable. Just search for "Passive PoE Injector and PoE Splitter Kit with 5.5x2.1 mm DC Connector RJ45 Power Over Ethernet". This works with the supplied power supply so you don't use the POE from a switch.
