“Can the motion activation be set so that the camera records but the flood light does not come on? We would prefer to control the light with our smart device, and not have it flashing on when there is motion.”

Yes you can select it in the ring app. I usually do it when it windy and it turning on again and again. You can also change it to select to turn only when detects human
