Hi Gee, The red wire is used when installing the Spotlight Cam Mount. It is optional and should be connected only if you wish to control other lights with your Spotlight Cam. The red wire comes only with the battery for the Ring Cam wireless. You use it for charging the battery. The Ring Cam wired is a simple plug and play gadget.
