It wires in like any other doorbell. I would recommend charging it via USB cable provided prior to installation, that way you can setup the wifi access without fear of the battery not being charged enough.

Most home doorbells either have their own transformer or double off the transformer on your furnace for the thermostat. One important thing.....if you have an mechanical doorbell (and still want it to ring) make sure to put in the supplied diode across the terminals on the Ring Doorbell. If not you can seriously damage the electronics in your Ring doorbell. In Tech terms the collapsing A.C. field from the striker coil solenoid in your mechanical doorbell can send a huge voltage spike back into your Ring Doorbell.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.To correct the earlier response -- they include a special diode for use if you have a NON-MECHANICAL DC-Powered door chime. The unit wires right up to the old doorbell wires.
