It doesnt have an off switch. I dont think it uses much battery, but I take it out just in case to not only ensure no battery usage but to simply to not have it out in the open while I leave my car unattended.

This transmitter turns on when it is plugged in and does not have an on / off switch (although it can be easily turned off by removing the plug-in halfway, just enough to lose power. Then, just push it back in to turn it on). In my experience with the device, it does not use nearly enough power to drain the battery of the vehicle. I leave mine plugged in 24/7 with no issue.
