What you want to do should theoretically work. However, I did have an issue using this with my PS3, TV, and audio receiver setup. I posted a review with my nickname which had the issues I encountered. If it is convenient for you, I would suggest trying it out because the issues I encountered might be due to my setup (as mentioned in my review).
