If you’re watching programming through a web streaming service like Hulu, Netflix, or YouTubeTV, then you generally won’t need an HDMI cable. You’ll need to be accessing these streaming services wirelessly through your smart TV, or via a streaming stick like Roku or Amazon Fire Stick. If you’re watching TV through a physical DVR (for example, one from from a cable company like Verizon or Comcast), then you will need a cable to connect the box to the TV. If you have no physical hardware to connect to the TV, you have no need for the cable.

I guess it depends on the source providing the signal. If it is a cable box, Roku, Apple TV, etc. that has 4K channels this would be beneficial. If it is just over the air (antenna) channels and they are only 1080 or just HD then probably not. So it all depends on the source that is going to your TV.
