• I bought this same one for my son who is using a 4S as well. He hasn't had any issues with it.

• It does in deed work with the iPhone 4s. I found I had a similar problem with many other cables. Sometimes the case you have might interfere with it attaching properly. Try taking the phone out of the case and charging it.
