You will receive an initial "soft charge" to verify that your bank or credit card balance will cover the purchase cost once it's shipped. The soft charge will be removed from your bank or credit card account about a week after pre-ordering and then re-charged back to your account upon shipping. This is a pretty standard method when you pre-order things. I placed my pre-order on launch day and was initially charged the $699 to my bank, which has since been removed. A lot of people were panicking, believing that Best Buy had canceled their pre-orders, but like I said, it's just how they do it.

It will depend on the payment method. Using my BestBuy card, there is a hold on the amount but I have not been charged yet.

I was charged almost immediately. Basically within five minutes of pre-ordering.
